During her thesis program, she worked on the development of antiviral therapy applied to HIV-1. The aim of her PhD project was to use a library of semi-artificial proteins with repeat motifs or alpha-REP to screen their inhibitory effects on structural viral components using of HIV-1 as a target. Dr Sudarat Hadpech successfully isolated two alpha-REP clones with specific and significant antiviral activity which blocked HIV-1 particle assembly and genome encapsidation. These alpha-REP acted as intracellular restriction factors against HIV-1 and conferred a complete resistance of human lymphoid cells to HIV-1 infection. This work has been published in Scientific Reports.

Dr Sudarat Hadpech is currently a Lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Burapha, Chonburi Province, Thailand.
